Jubilants
Twitter – a treasure trove?
We’ll Follow is something a little new for the bell. We’ll let you know about a band that followed us. We happened to think that they had a great sound, so that was that!
Recently we came across Jubilants, a four piece offering from Sydney. They’ve only released one song, Antics, an impressive preview of a debut EP soon to come. They’ve also got some shows planned, so as always check out the bell’s gig guide.
From what I hear, there’s an interesting story behind the song’s involving the lead singer Jose, an Inca trail in Peru and llamas (that last part was just pure speculation but I promise the rest was true).
This is what Dom Alessio had to say about them, “A pretty mysterious new Sydney act…this tune is in that indie pop vain of guys like Foals and Two Door Cinema Club, it’s nice and upbeat, really nice melodies here”
I would have to agree. Deliberate or not, the fact that Jubilant's have only released one song and there seems to be no photos of the band, anywhere, definitely add to the anticipation.
Technically the guitar work is great and it’s always refreshing for a band to break away from those somewhat standard chord progressions. Apart from this, Jose’s strong vocals carry the song.
For me, there’s a great summery vibe – somewhat reminiscent of Vampire Weekend’s contra. The added reverb and the rolled off tops of the guitar really bring that sound home. It’s fun and the jangly melodies are sure to stay in your mind even after the song’s finished playing.
